A business hopes to encourage others after making a donation to a museum to help with its running costs.
National civil engineering, infrastructure and tunnelling company Barhale has made a generous donation to Wisbech and Fenland Museum's appeal fund which can be used towards replacing annual council funding of running costs due to end in April 2025.
As a key contractor with Anglian Water, Barhale has had a presence in Wisbech for many years, offering active apprenticeship and training and development programmes as well as supporting community initiatives through Business in the Community.
It is hoped that the company's one-off gift of £3,000, which has been donated as unrestricted funds, will kick-start similar support from local and regional companies towards plugging the gap in the museum's finances.
Dennis Curran, Barhale chairman, said: “We take our role in the Wisbech community, which we very much feel part of, very seriously.
“We are pleased to make this donation to the Wisbech and Fenland Museum which not only provides a fascinating historical perspective on life across the region but also makes such an important contribution to the community today.”
Steve McGregor, museum chairman, said: “Everyone at the museum is delighted to receive such generous support from a nationally well-known and established business.
“We are always keen to strengthen our links with other businesses local, regional, and national, and we hope that where Barhale has led others will follow.

Museum trustee Russell Beal of Anglian Water said: “Anglian Water and its partners have supported a wide range of organisations in Wisbech over the years as part of their close work with Business in the Community.
