Simon Jordan knows ‘who should win’ between Erik ten Hag and ‘influential’ Man Utd star after post-Bournemouth incident

TalkSPORT presenter Simon Jordan has dropped his two cents on Erik ten Hag and one “influential” Manchester United star after an incident following the Bournemouth match.

Manchester United salvaged a 2-2 Premier League draw against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium last weekend thanks to a brace from Bruno Fernandes.

Dominic Solanke pounced on a first-half opportunity to fire Bournemouth into the lead after a slip-up from Willy Kambwala, who endured a tough time for United.

United captain Bruno Fernandes cancelled out Dominic Solanke’s opener before Justin Kluivert restored Bournemouth’s advantage before half-time.

Willy Kambwala was once again left exposed during Bournemouth’s second of the contest, with Diogo Dalot and Casemiro offering him no support at the time.

The 19-year-old United defender was helpless as Justin Kluivert shifted the ball on his right and fired a powerful low strike past Andre Onana from close range.

Fernandes once again stepped up for United and the 29-year-old midfielder ensured his side secured a point in the second half after converting from the spot-kick.

United’s top-four Premier League challenge this season is all but over after managing only one win in their last five league matches.

The Red Devils have fallen 13 points behind fourth-place Aston Villa, who have played one match more than United, in the race for Champions League football.

Jordan on Ten Hag and Man Utd star

Erik ten Hag made the decision to withdraw Alejandro Garnacho when Manchester United were losing 2-1 to Bournemouth and replaced him with winger Amad Diallo.

Alejandro Garnacho only played the first half at the Vitality Stadium and had very little impact for the Red Devils during the Premier League contest.

United manager Ten Hag spoke about his tactical decision in his post-match press conference, with the Dutchman saying he had to “repair” the right side for his team.

“I think we had to repair over the right side. We didn’t play well, the spaces were there,” he said at the time.

“In possession, we had to bring a sub there. Garnacho was during the week not training.

“Only yesterday [Friday]. We thought [to] bring some energy and bring some more quality; quality in the sense of cooperation and togetherness on that right-hand side.”

Garnacho’s account on X, formerly known as Twitter, liked two tweets from United-supporting YouTuber Mark Goldbridge after Ten Hag’s criticism of the winger.

One of the tweets from TalkSPORT presenter Mark Goldbridge claimed that Ten Hag had ‘thrown’ Garnacho “under the bus” after “subtly blaming” him.

According to The Independent, Ten Hag has since spoken with the 19-year-old Argentina international over the social media activity from his account.

Speaking on Ten Hag and Garnacho, Simon Jordan dropped his two cents on the use of social media in the situation involving the pair.

“Clubs place clear obligations on players to behave in a certain way,” he wrote in his column for The Daily Mail.

“Social media rules in a contract should be very clear – you’re not allowed to criticise the club or its senior personnel.

“The fact players think they can – and Garnacho is not the first and won’t be the last – is the challenging conundrum football faces in balancing power between players, managers and owners.

“If there was a stand-off between Ten Hag and Garnacho, who’s going to win in the eyes of the outside world?

“Well, Garnacho’s a young starlet on a long contract, worth a few quid and Ten Hag is a manager whose position is under threat.”

Jordan makes ‘who should win’ claim

Garnacho’s account on X has unliked the tweets from Goldbridge and the PA news agency said a United source had revealed the matter had been dealt with internally.

Jordan insisted that he knows “who should win” in the situation involving Garnacho and Ten Hag amid the uncertainty around the United boss’ long-term future.

“I know who should win, regardless of the manager’s future, and it should really be the club taking a stance, not the manager,” he continued.

“There is simply no need for an influential, recognisable footballer like Garnacho giving validity to a social media post from some random person making an observation that is uninformed and based solely upon their opinion.

“If I was still involved in football I’d be very clear. If you have a criticism of the club or want an audience because you are unhappy with something then deal with it internally.”
