The European Union is preparing its 14th package of sanctions against Russia for its ongoing war against Ukraine, according to BR24.
A senior EU official at a briefing announced that the new package will include punitive measures against those circumventing existing sanctions against Russia.
At the same time, he added that the list of individuals and entities whose assets in the EU are to be frozen will likely be expanded again. The EU External Action Service and the European Commission will present specific proposals to the member states next week.
Sanctions against Russia
Since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the European Union has consistently imposed sanctions against Russia, aiming to restrain the aggressor and halt its military machine. These restrictions target Russian officials, oligarchs, key sectors of the economy, and companies and enterprises that work to benefit the Russian regime.
On February 23, 2024, the EU adopted another, 13th in succession, package of sanctions, further intensifying pressure on Russia. The European Council agreed to add 106 individuals and 88 legal entities to the sanctions list.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on the international community to strengthen sanctions against Russia further. He emphasized that the Kinzhals missiles Russia uses to shell Ukraine contain dozens of foreign components.
European Commission Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis stated that the EU has already begun preparing the 14th package of sanctions against Russia.
