Borussia Dortmund hope to carry their Champions League momentum into Sunday's Bundesliga match against Bayer Leverkusen in order to hand the freshly-crowned champions a first season defeat.

Dortmund reached the Champions League semi-finals for the first time in 11 years on Tuesday with a 4-2 victory against Atletico Madrid.

"We want to use the energy to consolidate our hunger. This is a good momentum to get everything on our side," coach Edin Terzic told reporters on Friday.

"It is not so easy to win against Leverkusen, we have experienced it over the last month. But we also know that we have a big chance if we come close to how we did it on Tuesday."

Leverkusen clinched a maiden Bundesliga title last weekend with five games to spare and reached the Europa League semi-finals on Tuesday with a 1-1 draw at West Ham United, extending their unbeaten run all season to 44 matches which is a record in Europe's top five leagues.

Xabi Alonso's Leverkusen have won 38 of those matches, with Dortmund among the few teams to get a draw against them, 1-1 in the reverse league fixture in autumn.

"We are the challengers to beat a team that has not lost in 44 matches," Terzic said.

Dortmund are fifth in the Bundesliga which could be enough to play in the next Champions League via a UEFA ranking slot in addition to the top four finishers. They are behind RB Leipzig, who they visit the following weekend, on goal difference.

"We are aware that fifth place could be enough to qualify for the Champions League. We can still garner 15 points in the Bundesliga, and that is the clear aim," Terzic said.
