Archie Gray says £40m Tottenham player is even better than Jack Grealish

The EFL has produced some of the best talent in English football in recent years.

Indeed, when you look at the recent crop of players who’ve been called up to the England squad, so many of them cut their teeth in the lower leagues.

Ollie Watkins, Kalvin Phillips, Harry Maguire and even Jude Bellingham all started in the lower leagues, and that conveyor belt of incredible talent doesn’t look like stopping.

Indeed, there are a number of talented young English stars in the Championship right now, and perhaps the best of the bunch is Archie Gray.

The Leeds United star has been tipped for big things in the future, and, interestingly, speaking to Football Manager on TikTok, Gray has now ranked some of the greatest former EFL players in the game right now.

Gray ranks former EFL stars

Archie Gray was tasked with ranking 10 current players who made their names in the EFL, and he made a very interesting claim about a current Tottenham player.

Indeed, during this ranking, Gray put James Maddison in fourth place, interestingly placing him ahead of Manchester City’s Jack Grealish.

Maddison has been fantastic for Tottenham this season, and Gray reckons he’s now better than Grealish.

James Maddison vs Jack Grealish

This is a very interesting debate, especially considering Tottenham could easily have ended up signing Grealish a few years ago.

Comparing these two players is very difficult as they’re playing in such wildly different teams and systems at the moment.

Maddison is allowed to play with so much freedom, while Grealish is shackled by the tactical strictness of Pep Guardiola’s side, but, during his time at Aston Villa, he showed just how effective he can be when he’s given more of a free role.

Maddison has been the more eye-catching and effective player this season, it must be said, but Grealish is still an incredibly talented player in his own right.
