West Norfolk Council to hold free martial arts sessions on Hunstanton Green as part of World Tai Chi Day

A free martial arts session is being offered to residents of a coastal town this month.

As part of World Tai Chi Day, West Norfolk Council is giving people the opportunity to try out the martial art at Hunstanton Green on Saturday, April 27.

Known for its slow, intentional movements, Tai Chi originates from China and has benefits to mental and physical health.

The sessions will be held on Saturday, April 27 from 10am to 12pm. Picture: Google Maps

The ABC Tai Chi group, from Heacham, will be leading the event with sessions from 10am until 12pm.

Cllr Simon Ring, the borough council’s cabinet member for tourism, events and marketing, said: “This is an opportunity for residents and visitors to experience Tai Chi first-hand in a relaxed, enjoyable environment with like-minded people.

“All are welcome, from complete novices to those who have participated before. I look forward to seeing the Green as full as possible with everyone doing Tai Chi.”

The morning will focus on a simple form of the art called Qi Gong, which is about harnessing the power of breathing and movement.

"We are looking forward to sharing our passion for Tai Chi and Qi Gong and to encouraging more people to experience this truly holistic exercise system first-hand,” Allan Howlings from ABC Tai Chi said.

There will also be a limited mobility session from 11am to 12pm where participants can either bring their own chairs or use the ones provided.
