Report: Arsenal scouts are really high on 'extraordinary' £60m midfielder; Arteta's wanted him for 12 months

Arsenal fans will be getting excited for the summer transfer window with reports suggesting big money could be spent once more.

Arsenal’s season has been derailed a touch in the last week or so.

A defeat to Aston Villa was followed by being eliminated from the Champions League by Bayern Munich.

During the European clash with Bayern, Arsenal’s naivety in big games was evident and it’s come as little surprise that reports have since suggested a big summer of spending could be nigh.

A striker is on Mikel Arteta’s agenda, with the likes of Santiago Gimenez and Viktor Gyokeres both among the names mentioned.

However, a new midfielder is also set to be something Arsenal go for, and according to reports from the Daily Mail, there is one European star who Arsenal’s scouting team are backing.

Arsenal scouts really want the club to sign Martin Zubimendi

According to the report from the Mail, Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi is one of the names Arsenal are really keen on.

The report claims that Arsenal’s recruitment team are really high on Zubimendi.

The Spaniard fits the profile of what the Gunners are looking for, and is seen as the ideal deep lying midfielder to sit alongside Declan Rice in the middle.

Arsenal have been watching Zubimendi for some time now and it’s been reported previously how Mikel Arteta has wanted the midfielder for over a year already.

Arsenal spent a fortune on new players last summer as the likes of Kai Havertz, Declan Rice, and David Raya arrived for big money.

Zubimendi would add to that outlay, with a release-clause of around £60m said to be inserted into the midfielder’s deal at Real Sociedad.

A new midfielder is a must

With constant concerns over Thomas Partey’s fitness and Jorginho not getting any young, Arsenal do indeed need a new midfield.

Declan Rice has been a superb signing but to get the best out of him, Arsenal need someone else in the middle with him to give him that extra freedom.

Zubimendi would tick a lot of boxes for the Gunners. He’s clearly starred in Spain and there’s a reason why Arsenal are so keen on him.

Lauded as a ‘special’ player by Fabrizio Romano, Zubimendi very much looks like being a player the Gunners will pursue heavily this summer.
