Player that Erik ten Hag loves has ruled himself out of Man Utd move with £68m price tag - opinion

The Manchester United search for a new striker is heating up ahead of this summer, but one player has now ruled himself out of a move.

Erik ten Hag for as bad as the on-field performances have been this season, has been so cruelly unlucky with injuries.

The Manchester United squad has been thin for the entire season with several important players out for substantial periods, making the coming summer window vitally important amid claims of four key positions.

Anthony Martial is one who’s been out since December, and although he’s not the shiny game-changing striker he once was, he still would’ve been a vital cog to have available.

Instead, Rasmus Hojlund has been over-relied on and over-exposed, and in his absence, Marcus Rashford has struggled to fill in upfront.

This makes a supporting striker in the summer one of the club’s priorities. But one potential option has ruled himself out of a move.

Brian Brobbey prices himself out of Manchester United move

The striker has been speaking recently as quoted by the Dutch outlet, SoccerNews.

In this interview, he’s been discussing his season to date and also predicted how much he’d cost any interested side this summer.

“I’m about to blossom,” he said.

“If I see myself and how I have played in the last few months, I think I am doing quite well. I still want to achieve many great things in my career, such as playing for a very big football club.

“Real Madrid is a beautiful club. Arsenal, Manchester United… How much am I worth? After the European Championships, €80m (£68.5m). Going to the European Championships is also a dream of mine.”

Brobbey setting himself that high of a price tag is well beyond what United and Ineos will be able to or want to afford to spend on a striker this summer, with more pressing concerns.

Ten Hag has always been a fan of Brian Brobbey

While it’s now fairly unlikely a move for Brobbey would cross United’s mind with Hojlund already at the club having cost a similar amount, Ten Hag would likely still fight for it to happen.

In 2022, it was reported that the Dutchman had actually sent, what Express labelled as a ‘desperate text’ to Brobbey, to attempt to convince him to join him at Old Trafford.

It’s clear to see why he wanted him, with seven goals and an assist in 11 Eredivisie games during the 2021-22 season.

This season he’s had similar success with 17 goals in 26 games, but there’s little chance United throw the kind of money he’s suggested at him.
