Arsenal are now willing to pay £39m for 'very clever' Arteta target, it may not be enough

Arsenal have been linked with Eintracht Frankfurt defender Willian Pacho, and now appear keen on recruiting him in the summer.

Pacho is a centre-back by nature, and has made 39 appearances across all competitions for Frankfurt.

The Ecuador International has been linked with both Arsenal and Liverpool ahead of the summer window, and Mikel Arteta is seemingly keen on recruiting him to strengthen his defensive depth.

Arsenal boast the best defensive record in the Premier League, with William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes forming an outstanding partnership at the back, but the club may be keen on adding depth in the form of Pacho.

Arsenal are keen on signing Willian Pacho

A report from BolaVIP has now revealed that Arsenal are willing to pay around £39m for the Frankfurt defender this summer.

Pacho, 22, joined the Bundesliga side from Royal Antwerp last summer, and his value has clearly shot up given what Arsenal are willing to offer.

However, this may not be enough to sign the centre-back, as Frankfurt reportedly want at least £51m to part ways with their star defender.

Pacho has been described as “very clever” by Frankfurt director Markus Krosche, and he may be a good addition in terms of depth.

Arsenal’s options at centre-back are limited beyond Saliba and Gabriel are limited, and an injury to either would be a disaster.

Pacho is stronger on his left foot, and his speed could potentially see him play at left-back, although this is not a position he has been tested in before.

Jakub Kiwior is also a left-footed centre-back, and would currently be Gabriel’s main cover. Ben White is also able to cover for Saliba, and given that these two are the starting pair, Pacho would find game time difficult to come by should he join.

This therefore makes a move unlikely, even if he would improve Arsenal’s depth, as a centre-back is not a priority position that needs addressing in the summer.

He is a player to keep an eye on for the future, but unless there is a shock departure for Kiwior, who has previously been linked with a return to Serie A, Pacho is a player Arsenal are perhaps unlikely to sign this summer.
