Report: Tottenham hold positive talks with 25-year-old out of contract in June, Scott Parker said he's 'great'

Tottenham are expected to be busy in the summer with the club set to return to European football next season – but a number of decisions will have to be made on the future of a few current players.

A decision needs to be made on whether to sign Timo Werner on a permanent basis, while there are a few players linked with exits. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Bryan Gil and even possibly Richarlison could go.

With Spurs in Europe next season, attention needs to be placed on the homegrown status of the squad. With Harry Winks leaving last summer, it might prove crucial that Spurs keep the likes of Oliver Skipp.

Another that boasts homegrown status is 25-year-old Brandon Austin. The stopper, who is yet to make his senior debut for Spurs, is out of contract at the end of the current campaign. He’s warming the bench.

Tottenham in talks to extend Brandon Austin contract

With Fraser Forster injured, he has been on the bench for Tottenham’s last eight Premier League games. A player that has played 45 times for the club’s second string. But he could be about to leave Tottenham.

However, Football London say that the two parties have discussed terms over a new deal. Those talks are said to have been positive, with both parties keen to do a deal. Spurs need four homegrown players.

Other possibilities include Skipp, Alfie Whiteman, Troy Parrott and Japhet Tanganga – but the latter trio could be allowed to leave, Tanganga’s agent has said he is out of contract like Austin this summer.

What has Scott Parker said about Tottenham’s Austin in the past

No doubting that Austin is a solid goalkeeper. But, it seems as if Tottenham are only keen on doing a deal because of their homegrown status and at 25. Surely, he will want to kickstart his career at some point.

He has been out on loan twice, to Viborg and Orlando – the latter in the MLS. But it looks as if Austin will now put pen to paper on a new Spurs deal – and it might be Tottenham have given him some assurances.

With Forster now 36, Spurs might have told Austin that he will replace Forster as the club’s no.2 option behind the defence. A player that Scott Parker has described as “great” in the past, while a Spurs coach.
