'He is the best': Unai Emery says player Mikel Arteta sold at Arsenal is better than everyone else

Unai Emery has come out and claimed that a player Mikel Arteta sold at Arsenal is the best in his position in the world right now.

The Spaniard spent 18 months as Arsenal’s manager after Arsene Wenger left the club. His time there wasn’t memorable at all, but he did have some excellent players at his disposal.

Arteta then replaced Emery after he was sacked, and the current Arsenal boss has made plenty of changes to his side over the years.

Most players who worked under Emery at the time have been moved on, and one of them has achieved some incredible things since leaving the Gunners.

Emery has now come out and claimed that the player in question is currently better than everyone else in his position in the world.

Unai Emery makes big claim about former Arsenal player

Arsenal have had a number of top-quality players over the years.

Some of them had fantastic careers at the Emirates, while others just couldn’t get the opportunities they wanted there and had to move on.

Unai Emery managed players who fall into both categories when he was at the helm at Arsenal, but he couldn’t make as many changes to his side as Mikel Arteta has done over the years.

The Gunners boss has been given the full license to do what he has wanted with his side, and that has helped Arsenal reach a whole new level.

One player Arteta sold has gone on to become a real star – Emiliano Martinez.

The 31-year-old, since leaving Arsenal, won the Copa America and the World Cup with Argentina and is doing an incredible job at Aston Villa as well.

Martinez was on Arsenal’s books when Emery was in charge, and he is now one of the first names on the Spaniard’s team sheet at Villa Park.

After seeing the goalkeeper’s heroics in Europe against Lille this week, Emery publicly declared that Martinez is the best goalkeeper in the world right now.

He said ahead of this weekend’s game, as per the Daily Mail: “He is being successful individually and with both Argentina and Villa. Having been successful with Argentina, he is progressively getting better with Villa.

“He is decisive in a lot of matches and of course, he is one of the best goalkeepers. The first, second, third? For me, he is the best.”

What Emi Martinez said after beating Arsenal last weekend

Emi Martinez was loved by everyone when he was at Arsenal, but things have changed since he left the club.

Many Arsenal fans were a bit angry when Mikel Arteta decided to sell him in 2020, but over the years, some of Martinez’s comments about his old club have ruffled a few feathers.

The Argentine has even received a few boos when he has returned to the Emirates, but he had the last laugh a few days ago when he helped his side pick up a 2-0 win at Arsenal.

Martinez, however, declared his love for the Gunners after the game, and these comments may go down well among the Arsenal faithful, despite the result last weekend.

Martinez said, as per Goal: “I think it was 10-11 years I was here. I’ve still got friends here. I came here as a lad and left a man. I’ll always love this club. They are still second, they’ve come far and have one of the best managers in the world. I’ve worked with Mikel [Arteta]. I know how good he is.”
