‘Don’t like this’: Micah Richards says he was ‘quite sad’ with what he saw after Man City vs Real Madrid

Micah Richards says he wasn’t happy with one particular thing he saw after Manchester City lost on penalties to Real Madrid in the Champions League.

On Wednesday, the Citizens were knocked out of the Champions League by Carlo Ancelotti’s side after drawing 1-1 in the 90 minutes plus extra time.

After the game, one pundit and former City player couldn’t hide his dismay at one particular thing he saw once the match ended.

Speaking in a recent episode of The Rest Is Football, Richards had this to say about what he saw after City’s journey to regain the Champions League came to an end.

He said: “It was quite sad to see the reaction on social media where everyone is so happy that Man City are out. I really don’t get it.

“When Liverpool win it, I was happy for them, when United were winning it, I was happy for them. I don’t like this divisive attitude on social media.”

Following on from last week’s 3-3 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu in the first leg, Pep Guardiola’s side found themselves 1-0 down in the 12th minute thanks to Rodrygo.

In the second half, Kevin De Bruyne managed to score an equaliser, although City couldn’t ultimately find a winner to put them into the semi-finals.

Why do so many people enjoy seeing Man City suffer?

With City winning the Treble last season as well as the UEFA SuperCup and FIFA Club World Cup earlier in this campaign, it comes as no surprise that supporters of other clubs were delighted to see the Blues get knocked out of the Champions League in midweek.

In our view, the delight that is shown by fans of other clubs when City suffer a defeat or get knocked out of a competition stems from jealousy based on how successful the Manchester club have been over recent years.

Moving forward, the best way for City to silence any negativity around them is by making more history and becoming the first side to win a fourth Premier League title in a row.
