Curtis Davies says attacker Arsenal let go in 2018 was the toughest player he’s ever played against

Curtis Davies has played against some top players during his career.

The defender has almost 200 top-flight games to his name and even more in the lower leagues.

The centre-half has been around the block a bit and he’s seen everyone from Cristiano Ronaldo to Harry Kane.

However, speaking to the PFA, he’s claimed that his toughest ever opponent was actually a player Arsenal let go a few years ago.

Curtis Davies’ toughest opponent

The defender claimed that Alexis Sanchez is the toughest player he’s ever had to face.

“Toughest opposition player ever?” Davies was asked.

“Alexis Sanchez,” Davies said.

Alexis Sanchez was so good

It’s been a while now and his reputation has been stained since, but we mustn’t forget just how good Alexis Sanchez was when he was at Arsenal.

The Chilean was an absolute machine during his time at the Emirates. He was one of the most energetic players in the Premier League and he was also one of the most technically gifted.

Not only would he chase down every ball, when he got the ball, he could work magic with it.

Sanchez may have left Arsenal in acrimonious circumstances, but he’s very much in the conversation for being the best player of the Emirates era in north London.

Sanchez was a joy to watch in his day, and that means that he must’ve been an absolute nightmare to play against.

Davies rarely got the better of the former Arsenal star, and, in all honesty, there aren’t many defenders in the league who could honestly say that they knew how to handle the South American.

Sanchez was absolutely unplayable at his peak, and Arsenal fans were very lucky to get to see him at his best, but, unfortunately, Manchester United fans didn’t have such luck.
