Hearts to miss striker in injury blow, three others also out

Rangers take the short trip to Hampden to face Hearts in the Scottish Cup semi-finals minus a few key players.

Philippe Clement has been missing players like Oscar Cortes and Danilo for some time but Ridvan Yilmaz also remains a doubt.

The Rangers squad is closer to full health, however, Hearts will be missing key individuals ahead of what could be a season defining fixture for both sides.

Rangers and Hearts injury issues for semi-final

Mohamed Diomande is available after missing the last couple of games because of a thumb injury which must have been down to the type of cast he required.

The January signing will have been able to train as normal otherwise and should also have more energy after observing Ramadan recently.

Other than the 22-year old, Clement will have Leon Balogun in better shape having been ill during the week.

Hearts are in a similar position in that they have four players who could have been starting but for injury.

The physical presence of Craig Halkett and Peter Haring will be a miss as will the calming influence of midfielder Calem Nieuwenhof.

Nieuwenhof wasn’t far away as was Liam Boyce, who has caused Rangers more than a few problems in the past with his direct style and finishing ability.

The veteran is as good a striker outside the Old Firm as there has been over the last decade.

Hearts first XI is still strong though and Steven Naismith will be looking to take advantage of Rangers poor form in recent weeks.

It’s not quite Lawrence Shankland, but the players that are unavailable to the Hearts manager will still have an impact on his game plan.

Cammy Devlin and Beni Baningime are both experienced at this level now and will be a constant nuisance for whoever Philippe Clement picks in the engine room.

Jorge Grant is probably the most likely to deputise for Nieuwenhof as the more attack minded option in the squad.

Rangers need to concentrate on themselves

As always, it should be about what Rangers do.

Rangers squad should always be stronger than Hearts and, in terms of depth, it would be hard to argue otherwise.

As we’ve seen recently, Dundee and Ross County shouldn’t be able to compete, never mind over run a team that has the highest wage bill in the league and a raft of internationals too.

Football isn’t played on paper though and, as Rangers will find out at Hampden, Hearts won’t care who is and isn’t available.
