Report: Man City have approached £40m player for potential summer transfer move, Pep called him ‘exceptional’

Manchester City have reportedly approached the representatives of a current Premier League player in regards to a potential summer transfer move.

The Manchester club have a track record when it comes to signing players from fellow Premier League clubs.

Even though the season hasn’t ended yet, some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding one top-flight player the Blues have an apparent interest in.

A recent report from 90 Min said this on the matter.

It said: City have already approached the player’s camp, while PSG are also contemplating a move.

“City are looking for a player to compliment Rodri and like the fact [Bruno] Guimaraes can play as a number six or a number eight.

Back in the 2022 January transfer window, Newcastle United paid £40m to sign the midfielder from Lyon.

Since then, the Brazilian has made 101 appearances for the Tyneside club across all competitions, scoring 14 goals and providing the same number of assists.

Would Newcastle be open to selling Bruno Guimaraes?

With 31 Premier League appearances under his belt this season, the 26-year-old has shown how capable he is in and out of possession.

For example, from an attacking point of view, Guimaraes has made more shot-creating actions (110) and passes into the penalty area (55) than any other Newcastle player.

Then in terms of his defensive work, the midfielder has made more recoveries (191) than any of his teammates and has the highest combined total of tackles and interceptions (101) at the club.

This makes it easy to see why City have apparently made an approach to Guimaraes’ representatives over a possible summer move to the Etihad Stadium.

It also backs up why Pep Guardiola described the Brazil international as an “exceptional” player back in March.

Taking all of that into account, while we feel this would be a top signing for City to make, it seems unlikely that Newcastle would be willing to sell their star midfielder to a fellow Premier League side.

Therefore, it could take the Citizens a hefty transfer fee to land the player if they want to make a move for him this summer.
