Report: The verbal agreement Newcastle have with Bruno Guimaraes amid transfer interest

It’s going to be a fascinating summer at Newcastle United.

A big rebuild has been predicted in some circles as Newcastle look to challenge for Champions League qualification again, as well as in England’s domestic cups.

Still, it remains to be seen whether or not the FFP limitations the club are operating under will allow a huge revamp of Eddie Howe’s squad.

Howe has already warned the club are facing a reasonable difficult summer as owners PIF look to keep on the right side of the Premier League’s PSR rules.

As a result, players are being linked away.

Arsenal are reportedly keen on star forward Alexander Isak, albeit Newcastle do not plan to sell the super Sweden international.

The mood music around another key player in Bruno Guimaraes, however, is different.

While Newcastle haven’t given up hope on keeping him and Guimaraes himself has spoken of his desire to stay, Paris Saint-Germain are believed to be interested.

The fact Guimaraes is thought to have a release clause of around £100m in his contract obviously weakens Newcastle’s hand, too.

Even if the Brazilian international isn’t necessarily pushing for a move, the idea that a club could be able to talk to him if they pay that money is a worrying one.

Now, some more insight into another agreement Newcastle have with Guimaraes has emerged.

The verbal agreement Newcastle are believed to have with Bruno Guimaraes

According to 90 Min, the club have a verbal agreement with Guimaraes.

The content of that agreement is that he would be able to talk to Champions League-level clubs should they come knocking and that offers below his release clause would be engaged with.

Still, any offer for Newcastle to consider that is below his release clause would still have to be in excess of £80m.

Bruno Guimaraes might have just dropped a big hint about his Newcastle future

Clearly, the prospect of losing a player who can surely have a claim to be one of Newcastle’s greatest ever midfielders is worrying.

All hope, however, may not be lost.

Earlier this week, the Daily Telegraph claimed Guimaraes had recently purchased a £4m home in the area, perhaps indicating his intention to stay there.
