Ukraine is approaching an agreement on security assurances with the United States. The document may be signed after the US Congress concludes its consideration of aid to Ukraine, says Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"We've already signed nine security treaties. We are very close to signing a very important agreement with the United States of America. And after it passes Congress... we will get to this powerful agreement with the United States," the president said in a conversation with Brazilian media.
According to Zelenskyy, this concerns not only the US military support for Ukraine, but will also include humanitarian aspects, reconstruction, financial support, and energy support.
Security guarantees for Ukraine
Last year, the G7 countries signed a joint declaration on security guarantees for Ukraine. This declaration can be joined by any country that is ready to bilaterally agree to provide military or financial support to Ukraine.
Currently, security guarantee agreements have been signed with Britain, Canada, Germany, France, Denmark, Italy, Finland, the Netherlands, and Latvia.
According to the head of the Presidential Office, Andrii Yermak, the security assurance agreement with the United States should work no worse than the American memorandum with Israel.
