Report: West Ham offered Spanish UCL winner but Sullivan ridiculously chose to stick with Moyes

It seems as though West Ham were offered a rare opportunity to replace David Moyes with a truly elite manager.

David Moyes is under fire from large sections of the West Ham fanbase right now, and if the decision is made to replace him, there won’t be too many complaints.

I believe that Moyes will leave the club this summer, with the likes of Maurizio Sarri allegedly being lined up to replace him.

If the Scot is moved on at the end of the season, it has to be made public that that’s what’s happening beforehand, so he can get the send-off he deserves during our final home game against Luton Town.

The job that the 60-year-old has done at the London Stadium has been incredible in fairness to him, but his time here is done.

It’s time for the club and Moyes to go their separate ways. However, it seems like our owners have already passed up on a really exciting replacement for him…

West Ham had chance to replace David Moyes with UCL winner

The Scot won the Europa Conference League last season – our first major trophy since 1980.

So it was no surprise that he remained at the London Stadium, in spite of our terrible Premier League form during the 2022/23 campaign.

However, with the pressure cranking up on him now, and no new contract signed as yet, a managerial change could well be on the horizon at the London Stadium.

Things could well have changed already in that department it seems, only for the owners to show a total lack of ambition…

According to a report from Claret and Hugh, the Hammers were offered the chance to appoint Luis Enrique, but the owners chose to stick with Moyes instead.

The 53-year-old won two La Liga titles and a Champions League during his time in charge of Barcelona, and is known for implementing an incredibly easy-on-the-eye playing style.

Last year it was claimed that that the Hammers actually made an enquiry to Enrique’s agent about taking over from Moyes.

However, it now seems like it was the other way round and the Spaniard actually offered his services to us.

That’s hugely frustrating. Enrique would have demanded a massive salary, I have no doubt about that. However, it’s such a shame that Sullivan didn’t take a punt on him.

If the West Ham owner does decide to replace Moyes any time soon, I believe he’ll go for a manager who’s currently out-of-work, and not quite on the same level as Luis Enrique.
