Fabrizio Romano shares how long Tottenham expect Destiny Udogie to be on the sidelines

Tottenham Hotspur haven’t even been in action this weekend yet have been served with an enormous blow to Ange Postecoglou’s top four hopes.

Last weekend was a disaster for Tottenham, losing 4-0 with a truly awful performance away at Newcastle United.

Aston Villa then went and beat Arsenal on Sunday, and whilst poking fun at the Gunners is always fun, that result served as a hammer blow to Tottenham’s top four hopes.

England’s European coefficient took a battering in midweek too as Arsenal and Manchester City both crashed out of the Champions League whilst Liverpool and West Ham United lost in the Europa League.

That means Tottenham will need a top four finish in order to return to the Champions League, which is looking like a big ask in the final weeks of the season.

With no fixture this weekend, Tottenham fans will have been hoping for a fairly stress-free time before the North London derby against Arsenal next weekend.

Fate has not been kind to Tottenham though and Ange Postecoglou has been dealt an enormous blow…

Tottenham ace Destiny Udogie announces season-ending injury

Tottenham left back Destiny Udogie has taken to Instagram to post a photo of himself in hospital.

Udogie noted that he has suffered an injury and it will bring his season ‘to an early end’.

The Italian added that he is grateful to everybody who has supported him this season and he will now start his road to recovery.

Udogie didn’t disclose the exact injury he has suffered but Fabrizio Romano has now shared the extent of the problem.

Romano claims that Tottenham expect Udogie to miss the next three months through injury, meaning he will miss some of pre-season.

Romano adds that Udogie will now miss out on Euro 2024 too, which is a cruel blow after such an impressive debut season in the Premier League.

Who could replace Udogie?

Tottenham aren’t exactly blessed with lots of options at left back.

Ryan Sessegnon is out injured once again and is unlikely to feature any time soon, so that is one option we can rule out.

It’s likely that Ben Davies will get the nod at left back but Emerson Royal is another option if Postecoglou wants to go down that route.

The Brazilian has played at left back before but the natural left-footer in Davies should be the priority.

Udogie has been outstanding this season and missing him for the final few weeks of the season – and seeing him miss Euro 2024 – will hurt for Tottenham fans.

We can only wish Udogie the best in his recovery and hope to see him back fit and firing again in the near future.
