"He could be tempted"... PL manager Ten Hag has beaten twice this season could replace him, says pundit

Manchester United may very well start the 23/24 campaign with a new manager.

For a while now, there has been doubt cast over Erik ten Hag‘s future at Old Trafford. Despite having an absolutely stellar first campaign with the Red Devils, the second has been nothing short of woeful.

After a terrible Champions League campaign, a poor Carabao Cup defence and a dismal Premier League campaign – it seriously looks like the Dutchman could be off. That is even if United obtain an FA Cup triumph.

The big question obviously follows, who could replace him?

Who could be Manchester United’s next manager?

There have already been a number of managers linked with the role of taking over as Manchester United manager.

The list contains names such as Graham Potter, Zinedine Zidane, Gareth Southgate, Roberto de Zerbi, Thomas Tuchel and so many more.

Basically, it comprises of every single manager that could be available in world football – but are any right off the job? We’re not so sure.

Unlike when Ten Hag came to United, there isn’t really any certainty around any candidate, which is why it’s best to hold off for now.

However, there is one name that’s been spoken about who has been making absolute waves in the Premier League at the moment, and we can’t help but think he’d be one of the ideal candidates for the role.

Unai Emery to Manchester United?

Unai Emery has been simply sensational at the helm of Aston Villa this season. The 52-year-old has completely transformed Villa’s side into a team that will likely be playing Champions League football next season.

Despite Ten Hag actually handing Emery two out of his eight losses this season, you can’t help but think bringing the Turk to United would be an upgrade.

Manchester United are a club that could greatly benefit from mastermind guidance such as Emery’s. He’d fit the mould perfectly at Old Trafford.

But, with the Red Devils in a worse state than Villa at the moment, could he even be tempted with a move? Talksport’s Tony Cacarino seems to think so.

When asked about whether the prospect of the Turk packing his bags for Manchester could actually happen, he responded:

“Well, he could be tempted. He was tempted to go to PSG. PSG was a massive job, to take on in Champions League football, if he gets tempted. He is doing a marvellous job at Villa Park, I don’t want him to leave, I know what a great club Villa is.

“But that doesn’t mean if Man United come knocking, that’s a big problem for Villa because they will have to do something to really, you know, long term, to get his pen to paper to stay at Villa Park.” [7:28am talkSPORT April 21]

Could Emery really happen?

Emery would be an extremely exciting appointment for the Red Devils. His recruitment has been second to none in the transfer market for Villa, and we reckon he could replicate that nicely, particularly with the helping hand of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos mob.

As to whether we think it’s a possibility? More likely not that so. Emery will be trying to take Villa from strength to strength, and especially if there playing Champions League football has more reasons than not to stay at Villa Park.
