Report: Manchester United linked midfielder will cost just £12.9 million this summer

Manchester United are set for a busy summer ahead.

With Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos mob fully taking the reigns in the transfer market, you can definitely expect a lot of incomings and outgoings around Old Trafford.

Manchester United are in the market for at least four incomings, all in different positions. One of these includes a midfielder.

There have been several names speculated already, including a rather rogue shout – who knows the Premier League well.

Weston McKennie linked to Manchester United

According to GiveMeSport, United have identified Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie as an alternative option to their top targets ahead of the summer.

McKennie could be a good, cheap alternative to replacing Christian Eriksen, who increasingly looks more and more likely to leave Old Trafford in the summer.

The 25-year-old is Premier League-proven, although endured a difficult season during his time with Leeds – which saw him relegated to the Championship.

He then returned to Juventus, where he’s actually been performing well under Max Allegri. But now with less than 18 months remaining on his deal in Turin, he will be out of contract in 2026 and available on a free transfer. Which is why Juve may cash in for cheap. In fact, he reportedly would cost just £12.9 million.

Tutto Juve report: ‘Weston McKennie’s future hangs in the balance, Juventus must decide whether to renew his contract with the American asking for a raise and an important status in the team, the management will carefully evaluate and if an agreement is not found it will be forced to sell, for at least fifteen million euros (£12.9 million).’

Would Weston McKennie be a good signing?

The USA midfielder has become a reliable player for Juve under Allegri – but realistically would he be any good for Manchester United?

Well, it’s a matter of opinion. McKennie would likely be a rotational eight for United and would be a more than competent backup for Kobbie Mainoo who looks to have that position on lock for years to come.

The American is a powerful box-to-box midfielder, and United do need some more physicality in their side.

For the price, we actually believe it’s a very good option. We wouldn’t be opposed to seeing the former Leeds star try his hat in red next season.
