‘Really poor driving’: Nico Rosberg left unimpressed with ‘seriously ridiculous’ driver during Chinese GP

There were plenty of incidents of Sky Sports F1 commentators Nico Rosberg and David Croft to dissect during Sunday’s Chinese Grand Prix.

While Max Verstappen took the chequered for the fifth time this season including Saturday’s Sprint Race victory, the rest of the grid had plenty to deal with.

There was one moment on commentary that left Nico Rosberg seriously upset.

The mess after Verstappen’s first restart behind the safety car saw it quickly re-emerge.

He and the two other finishers on the podium were left stunned by Lance Stroll’s collision with Daniel Ricciardo.

It ended the Australian’s race and scuppered Stroll’s chances of finishing in the top ten.

However, Nico Rosberg was much more upset with Haas driver Kevin Magnussen midway through that first lap under green flags.

The Danish driver got his overtake on RB star Yuki Tsunoda completely wrong, earning himself a penalty and ending the 23-year-old’s race in the process.

The battle to score points for the bottom five teams is incredibly intense.

After back-to-back points-scoring Grand Prix, Nico Hulkenberg narrowly missed out in Japan, with Tsunoda the beneficiary of another poor race for Lance Stroll.

With Stroll dealing with a penalty in China, it once again opened up a single spot in the points for those drivers.

After going out in Q1, Kevin Magnussen was keen to make up the difference between him and Hulkenberg, who reached Q3 once again this season.

He made a bold move on Tsunoda and despite the 23-year-old’s reputation for being somewhat aggressive, he couldn’t have done any more to fight fairly with the Haas driver.

Unfortunately, Magnussen got the move completely wrong and Rosberg was left lamenting the incident as his Haas made heavy contact with the back of Tsunoda’s RB.

The 31-year-old was able to carry on but Tsunoda was forced to retire with Daniel Ricciardo joining him in the garage thanks to the damage sustained by Stroll.

Commentating on the race, Croft said: “This is what happened to Yuki Tsunoda.

Rosberg replied: “Alright, Kevin Magnussen, that was seriously ridiculous.

“Like, that was not good. That was so aggressive and so unnecessary, like, Yuki [Tsunoda] can’t do anything.

“He left all the space, there’s nothing that Tsunoda could have done.”

Croft added: “And that’s cost Magnussen as well as Tsunoda.”

Rosberg concluded: “Look where he’s come from, miles away and then he knows him out, that was not good, that was really poor driving.”

There could be a battle at Haas this season between their two current drivers to secure one available seat for 2025.

Oliver Bearman is being lined up to drive for the team next season after his impressive cameo in Saudi Arabia.

That leaves Magnussen and Hulkenberg fighting for the final spot at Haas and judging by Rosberg’s comments, Komatsu should be concentrating on trying to keep Hulkenberg.

Unfortunately, that might be easier said than done.

That’s because Audi want to add the German to their roster for 2025, ideally alongside Carlos Sainz.

However, there will be plenty of drivers elsewhere on the grid losing their seats and wondering if they can nick Magnussen’s place for next season.
