Rangers v Hearts - Team news confirmed, Goldson dropped in huge Clement call

Rangers take on Hearts for the fifth time this season and for the second at Hampden in a semi-final.

Philippe Clement will be hoping for a similar result and a repeat of the last encounter between the two sides would be greatly appreciated in the 3pm kick-off.

The Scottish Cup remains Rangers best chance of silverware after the recent run of poor league form but, Hearts will want to cause the sort of upset that Aberdeen so nearly pulled off – here is your line-up for today’s showdown.

Rangers v Hearts – Team news confirmed

Jack Butland will want to cement his place as the best goalkeeper in Scotland after being named in the PFA team of the season with a clean sheet.

The defence looked better against Dundee with John Souttar being the stand-out.

Leon Balogun is only just back to full health and it is a huge shock to see vice-captain Connor Goldson dropped even if his form has been poor.

It’s the same at left-back.

Dujon Sterling, defensively, is probably the best player in the squad now, but not being left-footed really limits options in the final third, especially if the player in front of him keeps cutting inside too.

With Ridvan Yilmaz close to a return, Borna Barisic’s place on the bench could be at risk.

Mohamed Diomande was pronounced fit and it’s not a surprise to see him recalled, Philippe Clement has predicted a big future for the Rangers midfielder and a big performance would be perfectly timed.

The wide positions see Abdallah Sima as the only natural first pick with Rabbi Matondo, Ross McCausland, Scott Wright and Sterling fighting for the other place.

This is who the manager has gone with:

Who is going to score the goals for Rangers?

Kemar Roofe started through the middle against Dundee and he didn’t make much of an impression in his first start for several months.

Fabio Silva hasn’t been seen through the middle for a while now which makes the recall of Cyriel Dessers an obvious one.

If ever a striker was due to score on the big occasion it’s Dessers.

At the sharp end of the season winning is all that matters and Rangers need to find a way of returning to the previous form under Philippe Clement.

With good form comes good results and Rangers could do with both today to halt a decline that is fast threatening to derail what had become a promising season.
