Report: Newcastle now have competition for 'perfect' £30m player who is bound to leave this summer

The goalkeeper position looks like something of a dilemma for Newcastle United this summer.

While Nick Pope will almost certainly be Eddie Howe’s first choice at Newcastle next season upon his return from injury, the options outside him do not look overly convincing.

Howe has defended Martin Dubravka at times and it’s not as if the veteran goalkeeper does not have good performances in him.

Still, Dubravka doesn’t always convince, while Loris Karius has been linked with a move away.

As such, Newcastle have been linked with a move for a new stopper.

Indeed, Aaron Ramsdale of Arsenal has been touted as a target.

Former Toon defender Danny Simpson even suggested he’d be the “perfect” addition for Newcastle and the England international looks bound to leave the Gunners following their signing of David Raya.

The £30m stopper may have even already played his final game for the north London giants.

If Newcastle do want him, however, they will not have things easy.

Newcastle will now have competition if they want to sign Aaron Ramsdale

According to The Sun, Wolves are keen on the custodian.

The Molineux club could sell current first-choice Jose Sa to clubs in Saudi Arabia and have identified Ramsdale as a potential replacement.

Aaron Ramsdale may not be wise to join Newcastle this summer

Though it remains to be seen whether or not Newcastle pay would what surely be big money for Ramsdale this summer, it’s unclear as to why he would want the move.

With Pope so important to the way Howe plays, it’s difficult to imagine him coming in as the first-choice No.1.

What, really, would be the point in swapping a back-up role at Arsenal for one at Newcastle?

Pope hasn’t been perfect this season but it’s very difficult to think he won’t be the first-choice when he finally comes back.

Wolves may indeed be a better move for Ramsdale.
