Big derby Scottish Cup Final confirmed for Celtic; date, details, reaction

Celtic will play Rangers in the Scottish Cup Final after the Ibrox side beat Hearts 2-0 at Hampden on Sunday.

The Bhoys had already booked their spot in the showpiece occasion with a penalty shoot-out victory over Aberdeen on Saturday.

There was nowhere near as much drama at the national stadium this afternoon. Hearts failed to take advantage of counter-attacks and chances, losing after Cyriel Dessers scored in each half.

It’s the first time there’s been a derby of this magnitude in the Scottish Cup final for 22 years and it will be a fitting end to a competitive season.

Celtic now have six matches ahead that will make or break the campaign. A victorious run will deliver a double for the Bhoys, while Philippe Clement’s side still dream of bagging a treble despite finding themselves three points behind in the Scottish Premiership.

May 25th can be a famous date for Celtic again

Celtic famously won the European Cup against Inter Milan on 25th May in 1967 and will again get the chance to make it a special day in 2024.

That’s the day Celtic will play Rangers in the final, also serving as Joe Hart’s official retirement from professional football.

The kick-off time and ticketing details have yet to be confirmed but the game will be broadcast by the BBC and Premier Sports.

Celtic have every right to feel confident of a victory. The Bhoys haven’t been beaten by Rangers this season and were victors in two derbies at Hampden last term – one of which was in the Scottish League Cup final.

As Brendan Rodgers recently said, this is the time of the season that Celtic come alive and the squad will hopefully thrive on the pressure and excitement that is quickly swelling.

For now, the team will focus on the challenge of Dundee next weekend. Take it one game at a time; there is no reason why this can’t be another joyous and successful campaign for the Bhoys.
