'Get back soon': Sergio Busquets sends message to 'very important' Inter Miami player after what happened vs Nashville

Sergio Busquets has sent a message to an ‘important’ Inter Miami star after what happened last night against Nashville SC.

The Herons were in top form in Florida with Lionel Messi once again in the starting XI as the Argentine international scored a brace and assisted Busquets for his first-ever Inter Miami goal, with the hosts winning 3-1.

The result took Tata Martino’s side two points clear at the top of the Supporters’ Shield standings with Inter Miami easily the best team in MLS this year when all the big-name stars are fit and firing for the Herons.

Yet it wasn’t all good news for Inter Miami last night.

Inter Miami star Diego Gomez picks up injury in Nashville win

Speaking to the Miami Herald, Busquets sent his regards to Diego Gomez, who was stretchered off in the second-half for Inter Miami after being stamped on the ankle, bringing up fears that the midfielder could be out through injury for some time.

The Paraguay international has been one of Inter Miami’s best-performing players this season, and losing Gomez having already lost the likes of Facundo Farias and Federico Redondo would be a hammer blow for the Florida franchise.

Busquets said when asked about Gomez’s injury last night: “Diego is having a great season, he’s a very important player for us for all he brings, and more than that, it seems like every game we lose a player.

“When we have our full squad we will be very strong team with a lot of resources. But for now they are stones in the road for us. Hopefully, they can all recuperate soon and get back as soon as possible.”

Busquets and company will need to step up for Inter Miami

Gomez’s form this season has been nothing short of spectacular, with Keiran Gibbs recently comparing the 21-year-old midfielder to Tottenham legend Mousa Dembele as well as claiming the youngster now knows how to play alongside Messi.

And if the South American talent is ruled out through injury for some time, the likes of Busquets will need to step up for Inter Miami, with Gomez a player who is going to be hard to replace for Martino.

Indeed, no CONCACAF Champions Cup action means Inter Miami don’t have to rush Gomez back to full fitness, yet the Herons need to be cautious in how they treat this injury, with the midfielder too good to be hurt yet again.
