Ukraine has a chance to seize the initiative in the war with Russia. But to do so, the United States must provide the Ukrainian military with the necessary weapons, states Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine today needs long-range weapons and air defense systems. And he hopes that after the US Congress approves the allocation of new funds to help Ukraine, the US administration will quickly send the Ukrainian army the weapons and equipment that are urgently needed at the front.

"Now we have a chance to stabilize the situation and seize the initiative, so we really need to have these weapons systems," he emphasized.

Zelenskyy also responded to the desire of some politicians in the United States to get "specific terms of the war."

"It depends on how quickly they (the Ukrainian military - ed.) receive this assistance. There are many variables, many factors," the president added.

US aid to Ukraine

Yesterday, April 20, the US House of Representatives approved the allocation of funds to help Ukraine. This happened after six months of delay in the US Congress. On Tuesday, April 23, the Senate will consider this issue, and then the approved bill will be signed by US President Joe Biden.

The White House has already promised that a new aid package for Ukraine will be allocated as soon as possible after approval by Congress. According to Mark Warner, chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, the new aid package could be delivered by the end of the week, and it will include ATACMS missiles.
