CNN "State of the Union" host Dana Bash rushed to Rep. Matt Gaetz's defense on Sunday after one of his Republican House colleagues ripped into him over accusations he paid teens for sex.

During a panel discussion on the future of House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), after an aid package for Ukraine passed in the GOP-controlled House, Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX ) called the Florida lawmaker a "scumbag."

Asked if Johnson will survive, Gonzales went off in a tirade aimed at some members of his caucus.

“He will survive,” Gonzales said. “Look, the House is a rough and rowdy place, but Mike Johnson is gonna be just fine.”

"I served 20 years in the military. It’s my absolute honor to be in Congress, but I serve with some real scumbags," he continued. "Matt Gaetz, he paid minors to have sex with him at drug parties."

"Rep. Bob Good (R-VA) endorsed my opponent — a known neo-Nazi," he then added before ranting, "These people used to walk around with white hoods on at night. Now they’re walking around with white hoods in the daytime."

"Look, it didn’t surprise me that some of these folks voted against aid to Israel, but I was encouraged to see by a nearly 10-to-1 mark that Republicans supported our allies on the battlefield," he added which lest Bash to protest, "Wow, okay. I should say that the federal government did look into Matt Gaetz and those allegations and they chose not to prosecute.”
