'Got to': Jamie Carragher hammers Nottingham Forest 32-year-old after Everton defeat

Jamie Carragher has criticised one Nottingham Forest player for their part in today’s 2-0 defeat against Everton in the Premier League.

The Reds couldn’t do what Glenn Murray advised and turn the atmosphere toxic, with the Toffees winning pretty comfortably.

Forest were hard done by with some scandalous refereeing decisions and ultimately, the Reds have released a damning statement.

Carragher was watching the Forest game for Sky Sports and one man came in for some criticism at half-time.

He felt that he didn’t cover himself in glory when Everton scored their first goal through Idrissa Gueye.

In fairness, the first half was relatively even. Forest had two penalty calls turned down; one on Giovanni Reyna and then when Ashley Young handled in the box.

Gueye’s goal flew into the net and ultimately, it was a wonderful goal that all came because the Forest midfielder backed off the Everton man.

Carragher felt that Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels didn’t cover himself in glory and claimed that he might feel he could have done better.

He said live onSky Sports: “I’d be disappointed with that as a defender. I think when a long-range effort bounces three or four times, I think he’s got to do better there.”

Sels has been a decent signing for Forest

It grinds our gears a little bit when we hear non-goalkeeping experts talk about goalkeepers – however, he might have a point here.

Sels did see the first goal a little bit late but he didn’t move his feet particularly well and he might like that moment again.

However, in large Sels has been decent for Forest. He’s certainly an upgrade on Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos and he was a cheaper option.

Sels, 32, is probably viewed as a short-term option and Forest might enter the market for another goalkeeper in the summer transfer window.

The Reds have a real job on their hands to stay in the division, however, and today’s defeat leaves the club’s Premier League status looking perilous.
