Aston Villa fans are now in agreement with Matty Cash verdict after Bournemouth win

Aston Villa fans are saying the same thing about Matty Cash after this afternoon’s 3-1 win against Bournemouth.

Unai Emery will be delighted with his Aston Villa side’s ability to come from behind to beat Bournemouth at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon.

Goals from Leon Bailey, Moussa Diaby and Morgan Rogers cancelled out Dominic Solanke’s first-half penalty however, it was not a day to remember for every Villa player.

Matty Cash will be thankful to have seen his teammates turn things around at Villa Park after committing the foul that led to the Cherries’ penalty, in what was a dire first-half showing for the Poland international.

Aston Villa fans react to Matty Cash performance against Bournemouth

It was a delightful day for Aston Villa, but less of a delight for Cash who was far from his best against the Cherries at Villa Park.

After recovering from a hamstring injury, the defender returned to the starting XI against Lille on Thursday, a night that saw him act as Villa’s hero.

Unfortunately, the 26-year-old’s status came crashing down this afternoon, as he went flying into Milos Kerkez in the box, conceding a penalty for his recklessness.

As well as conceding the penalty, the right-back had an underwhelming time against Bournemouth, winning just 20% of his duels, committing three fouls and losing possession 12 times, via Sofascore.

The main concern for the Villans was the Poland international’s role in giving away the penalty.

Missed chance for Matty Cash to impress Unai Emery

Overall, it was a missed opportunity for Cash to impress Emery at right-back, considering that the Spaniard seems to favour Ezri Konsa on that side of defence.

After his heroics in Lille on Thursday, this afternoon was the perfect chance for the defender to impose himself further on the starting XI, something he failed to do.

Now, the manager could be tempted to revert back to his favoured structure of playing Konsa on the right and moving Cash to the bench, with his careless display against Bournemouth not helping his cause.

With fixtures coming thick and fast and of great importance as the run-in to May continues, Cash will be fortunate enough to gain more game time however, Villa must address their lack of depth at right-back in the summer.
