BBC pundit offers brutal verdict on Manchester United player after post-match actions v Coventry City

Manchester United are through to the FA Cup final but few will really feel like celebrating this victory over Championship side Coventry City.

United were looking to book a spot against Manchester City in the FA Cup final for the second year in a row.

A victorious cup semi-final should be a joyous occasion for any football fan, but many United supporters will probably feel more embarrassed than jubilant.

United were 3-0 up with 20 minutes to play at Wembley Stadium as Scott McTominay, Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes all found the net.

That should have been the end of the game as a contest but United did what United do and allowed the opposition – yes, even a Championship club – to get back into the game.

Ellis Simms and Callum O’Hare made it 3-2 before Haji Wright’s injury-time penalty brought the Sky Blues level and teed up extra time.

United were more than fortunate in extra time as Simms rattled the woodwork before Victor Torp appeared to have won it, only for Wright’s foot to be adjudged as offside.

Erik ten Hag’s men eventually got the job done on penalties but this was yet another example for United being easy to play against and reaching the final almost feels a little hollow after such a weak display.

What Antony did at full time

United players didn’t exactly seem proud of their efforts either.

Rasmus Hojlund celebrated his winning penalty in front of the United fans but turned around to find that nobody was running to celebrate with him.

One United player decided to give it large though as winger Antony mocked the crestfallen Coventry players.

Manchester Evening News reporter Tyrone Marshall noted that Antony cupped his ears whilst running backwards.

That is the complete opposite of Maguire’s approach as he went over to console and shake hands with the Coventry players.

Yes, reaching a final is great for any player but Antony’s attitude after such a disappointing afternoon – as a team and as an individual – is a bad look.

Clinton Morrison on Antony

Antony’s post-match actions have not gone down well and pundit Clinton Morrison has offered the most brutal reaction yet.

The former Coventry striker told BBC Sport that Antony should be worrying less about the Sky Blues and more on his own performances.

Morrison believes that Antony’s performances this season show him to be more of a Championship player than a Premier League player, offering a withering verdict on his displays.

“He needs to worry about his own job instead of Coventry because some of his performances this season shows he could be playing in the Championship,” said Morrison.

Antony didn’t exactly make a great impact after coming off the bench with 65 minutes on the clock.

Four shots, none on target, no key passes, no dribbles, no crosses.

This was a pretty anonymous performance from the Brazilian – yet again – and for him to mock Coventry in that manner is pretty rich.

No other United player seemed to react in the same way and with Antony already on a short leash with fans, Sunday’s actions won’t exactly put him in anybody’s good books.
