Aston Villa completed sensational achievement for the first time in their Premier League history against Bournemouth

Aston Villa achieved something in the Premier League for the first time ever thanks to their 3-1 victory over Bournemouth.

Unai Emery’s side once again showed their quality as they overcame Bournemouth in style. Despite going 1-0 down early on, Villa remained professional and came back to win 3-1 thanks to goals from Morgan Rogers, Moussa Diaby and Leon Bailey.

It was a fantastic performance with multiple players standing out. It rounded off a superb past week for Villa which saw them shock Arsenal 2-0 at the Emirates and triumph in a penalty shootout against Lille to progress to the Europa Conference League semi-finals.

Now, this has been followed up with another Premier League victory giving Villa a six-point gap on Spurs having played two games more.

As a result of the match, Villa have now achieved something in the Premier League for the first time ever.

Upon the conclusion of the match, Villa took their points total up to 66 after 34 matches played.

This is the highest point total that Villa has achieved in the Premier League to date under its current format.

Back in the 1992/93 campaign, the Birmingham outfit finished runners-up to Man United with 74 points. However, in the inaugural season of the Premier League, there were 22 teams in the division which inflated the points total.

Therefore, their highest points total in a 38-match season in the Premier League before today was 64, coming in the 2009/10 campaign where they finished sixth.

Villa are now on track to finish with one of their highest points totals ever. As it stands, 66 points is their sixth largest of all time. Their Championship campaign in the 2017/18 season stands at the current highest at 83 points.

However, with Villa set to play another four league games, they could end up with their second-largest-ever total and the most in their Premier League history.

The job Emery has done at Villa since joining is crazy. Fans outside of the club tend to forget that the Spaniard only moved to the Birmingham outfit last season with the club in a relegation battle.

Yet, a season and a half later, the club has completely changed. Optimised around Villa Park is at an all-time high with more memories made this season than ever.

The records Emery has broken in such a short time is phenomenal. With the Champions League and the Europa Conference League trophy now in their hands, Villa are on the verge of their best campaign in many fan’s lifetimes.

However, no matter what happens better now and the end of the season, Villa clearly have a world-class manager on their books.
