Dominik Szoboszlai explains how Liverpool players really reacted to Jurgen Klopp leaving the club

Dominik Szoboszlai has opened up about what really went on inside the Liverpool dressing room when Jurgen Klopp announced his decision to leave.

The 26th January will go down as a dark day for Liverpool fans. On that day, everyone was stunned in the footballing world when Jurgen Klopp announced his decision to leave the club.

Even months later now, it’s been difficult to process what Klopp’s decision means. He’s been at Anfield for almost a decade. Not seeing him in the dugout will be a strange phenomenon.

But it’s something we are all going to have to get used to very soon. And not just the fans but players as well. Who were told the news on the same day it was released to the general public and the media.

Dominik Szoboszlai on what happened inside the Liverpool dressing room with Jurgen Klopp

In an interview with Hungarian TV channel Spiler TV Dominik Szoboszlai opened up on the moment Jurgen Klopp told the rest of his Liverpool squad his decision to leave the club.

“On the day it came out, we had a meeting at 10:30 in the morning,” Szoboszlai said.

“What I didn’t know, but the older players who have been here for a long time told me is that in eight years he [Jurgen Klopp] hasn’t had a meeting at 10:30 in the morning. So, we were thinking maybe he was going to extend, or what was later released to the public, that he will say goodbye. Unfortunately, it was the second one.”

In the same interview, Szoboszlai also revealed that at first the rest of the Liverpool squad were hoping Klopp’s decision would be merely just a joke or some prank.

“But he told us then too, and then we just sat in the dressing room and everyone looked at each other to see if it was a joke or not, searching if there were cameras somewhere. There weren’t any.”

What next for Liverpool after Jurgen Klopp?

The favourite to succeed Jurgen Klopp at the moment seems to be Ruben Amorim. He seems like he could be a good appointment.

Amorim has almost five years of experience managing at a high level in Portugal. In that time he has won the Portuguese Cup with Braga, and also succeeded in lifting Sporting CP’s first league title in 19 years.

He’s on course to lead Sporting CP to another victory this season, and it definitely feels like now could be the right time for him to leave the club.
