'I'm not having this': Jeff Stelling hits out at David Moyes over what he said after West Ham defeat

Jeff Stelling has hit out at what David Moyes has said after West Ham United were thrashed 5-2 by Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Those who have been calling for David Moyes to leave West Ham will surely feel vindicated after what happened at Selhurst Park at the weekend.

Moyes has come in for a lot of criticism over the course of the season. Some have defended Moyes, insisting that they cannot understand why he is under any sort of pressure.

But Sunday proved to be a devastating result for the Irons.

West Ham were 4-0 down inside the first 31 minutes against Oliver Glasner’s side. And the Hammers only got a second goal thanks to a bizarre own goal in the final minutes before the full-time whistle.

Certainly, with the dust still settling, it is hard to see Moyes continuing beyond this season at the London Stadium.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Moyes agreed that it was the worst performance of his tenure, before noting that they were without Jarrod Bowen and some of their defenders.

And Jeff Stelling suggested that he was not impressed by that comment.

“I’m not having this stuff Ally that he says we’re without Jarrod and a couple of the defenders,” he said.

“They had Paqueta and Kudus and Antonio and Alvarez and Ward Prowse and Soucek and Zouma and Coufal. On the bench, they had Phillips and Areola and Ings and Cornet and Cresswell. So I don’t think that’s a great excuse. It was just a shocker of a performance, wasn’t it.”

Tide may now be turning after 5-2 loss

Of course, Moyes had credit in the bank. He oversaw one of the greatest nights in West Ham’s history last season as they clinched the Europa Conference League.

But West Ham fans can be grateful to Moyes for everything he has done, while also being ready for a change.

They have a lot of talent within their squad. The likes of Lucas Paqueta, Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus have the potential to play at a higher level.

So to criticise West Ham fans for wanting Moyes to leave is extremely unfair when they are the ones who know the talent and potential within their ranks.

Perhaps Sunday’s defeat may prove to be the moment the landscape of the debate changed.
