Conor McGregor sets deadline to stop drinking alcohol ahead of Michael Chandler fight

Conor McGregor plans to keep drinking for a few more days before he turns his attention to training for his comeback fight.

McGregor will take on Michael Chandler at UFC 303 on June 29, almost three years since his last fight ended in disaster when he broke his leg at the end of the first round of his trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier. McGregor has won only one fight since 2016, a 40-second demolition of Donald Cerrone in 2020.

But despite his comeback fight being announced, the Irishman wants to squeeze in a few more days of celebrating. Addressing pop mega-star Justin Bieber on social media, McGregor wrote: "My brother Justin Bieber, the Mac has your back for life! From Beverly Hills to the Bahamas! See you in Vegas bro, it’s game on, the Mac is back! Five more nights on the delicious and then that be that see ya’s tonight IM NOT F***ING LEAVING."

McGregor has predicted he will KO Chandler when they meet this summer - but his rival is equally confident he will inflict a third stoppage defeat in succession on the Dubliner. "My Mystic Mike prediction is I finish him in the second round," he said.

"Get him on his heels in the first round, make him second-guess himself in the first round, make him realise, ‘Dang, I probably should have just stayed rich and stayed out of the fight game'. And I will start planting those seeds of doubts in the first round. By the end of the first round he will go back to his bench and go back to his corner huffing and puffing and realise that he’s about to meet his demise."

McGregor, meanwhile, is confident his leg will hold up when he returns to the cage. "God bless medical science. God bless my pockets, my net worth and, you know, being able to afford care at the highest, highest level. I had the best care,” McGregor said on This Life of Mine with James Corden.

“I am ‘Terminator’ now. I have a titanium rod that goes into the knee and down to the bone, right down to my ankle. It’s unbreakable, so I have free reign to kick now, so I’m ready to go and I’m excited. I wish for and I will work for landing this kick with this steel bar in my leg against an opponent and getting them out of there."
