Aston Villa further boosted their chances of a top-four finish after beating Bournemouth 3-1 on Sunday.

Even though the Aston Villa players played 120 minutes midweek against Lille in the Europa Conference League.

Even though Dominic Solanke opened the scoring from the penalty spot after a rash foul from Matty Cash.

The Aston Villa players didn’t allow that to affect them as they plugged on and fought their way to three points.

One of the key standout players for Villa was rising star, Rogers, who has now scored in back-to-back home matches.

The January signing was lauded by Moussa Diaby after the match and how it was a ‘strong performance’ from the versatile forward, as he told BBC Sport.

For Middlesbrough in the Championship this season, Rogers bagged two goals from 26 matches, and inside nine matches already for Villa, he has matched that tally.

Morgan Rogers shines for Aston Villa

“Morgan is a good player, he came in January, helped the team,” said Diaby.

“He can play left wing and second striker and [he had] a strong performance (against Bournemouth). [He] scored the second goal and I hope he will score more goals.”

Morgan Rogers is already one of the first names on the team sheet

This is a testament to Emery that Rogers has progressed in such a rapid fashion following his January transfer.

The performances Rogers is putting in now, you would have probably expected this in 12 months when he had gained experience, made mistakes and got used to his new surroundings.

But it has been far from it because he is already one of the first names on the team sheet.

That’s also credit to the player for settling in with such ease because he is only going from strength to strength.

You can now see why he was, once upon a time on Manchester City’s books because his technical ability and tactical awareness is just outstanding.
