Jacob Steinberg drops brand new Lopetegui claim, with Moyes set to leave West Ham

Julen Lopetegui is being heavily linked with replacing David Moyes as the new West Ham United manager.

David Moyes is under intense pressure at West Ham right now, and Julen Lopetegui is someone who could come in and take over from the Scot.

The former Wolves, Sevilla, Real Madrid and Spain manager first got linked with the Hammers job last year.

He has been out of work since leaving Wolves in August 2023, and is clearly on the hunt for a new challenge.

There may well be an opening at the London Stadium, with Moyes currently on very thin ice, and the Scot has admitted himself that he would have no qualms if he is indeed moved on.

So could Lopetegui really take the 60-year-old Scot’s place at West Ham? A claim today suggested that he is close to doing so, but what does Steinberg have to say about the situation?

New Julen Lopetegui claim, with Moyes set to leave West Ham

So, if the latest reports from Spain are to be believed, it might not be too long before we see Lopetegui at the London Stadium.

With Moyes’s position at West Ham currently untenable, a managerial change feels like a formality.

However, could the Spaniard really replace the Scot?

A rumour emerged today suggesting that the 57-year-old former Wolves boss is close to replacing Moyes at the London Stadium.

According to Jacob Steinberg, there is no truth to the rumour that Lopetegui is one step away from being appointed the new West Ham manager:

I think everyone can see now that Moyes won’t be in charge of the Hammers beyond the end of this season.

Really, the owners should part ways with him now, or at least make it public knowledge that he’ll be leaving when the 2023/24 season finishes.

I must say though, Julen Lopetegui wouldn’t be the first man on my wish-list to replace Moyes at West Ham.

Give me Arne Slot, Paulo Fonseca or Graham Potter any day of the week instead of the Spaniard. Quite who will replace Moyes when he leaves remains to be seen though.
