Arsenal should already be planning to use Aaron Ramsdale to get £60m player in swap deal this summer - opinion

Aaron Ramsdale is one of a number of fringe players at Arsenal that is likely to leave the club this summer in order for The Gunners to raise some funds – but he could be used in a surprise swap deal.

A recent report claimed that Oleksandr Zinchenko is a surprise name on a list of seven players that will be made available for transfer – with Ramsdale, Emile Smith-Rowe, Reiss Nelson, Eddie Nketiah and others.

Ramsdale, though no fault of his own, was made back-up keeper at the start of the season following the addition of David Raya from Brentford. Raya’s ability with the ball at his feet has seen him become no.1.

Aaron Ramsdale wants Arsenal exit and Wolves are keen

Raya has since impressed, producing performances like the penalty-shootout against Porto. Ramsdale, meanwhile, has been limited to just 11 appearances – and his England place is under the microscope.

He is set to leave, with the 25-year-old said to be keen on a move to Newcastle. But over the weekend, The Sun said Wolves have him on their radar – with Jose Sa attracting interest from Saudi Arabia clubs.

It is unclear if Ramsdale would want to join Wolves, but it is interest that Arsenal can take advantage of. Indeed, Arsenal are said to be looking at Wolves winger, as they aim to bolster options in the final third.

Arsenal are keen to sign Pedro Neto, deal to be done…

Neto is said to be at the top of Arsenal’s wishlist this summer, with a fee of £60m required to land the Portugal star. Neto himself is keen on a move to Champions League club at the end of the season.

So, Wolves need a goalkeeper and have Ramsdale on their shortlist – along with Sundeland’s Anthony Patterson and Liverpool’s Ireland ace Caoimhin Kelleher. But, they know Neto’s exit will be inevitable.

Why not take advantage of that to get a player they want themselves? The only sticking point in a player-plus-cash deal between Wolves and Arsenal for Ramsdale and Neto, is if Ramsdale wants to join.
