Company boss fears Cadent Gas works in South Street, Bishop’s Stortford will be in for the long term

A Bishop’s Stortford company boss fears a set of road works outside his business is there for the long term – despite plans for them to finish on Friday (April 26).

The work by Cadent Gas sprung up in South Street outside Ducketts Wharf last week with two-way temporary traffic lights directing traffic through them.

The entrance of Ducketts Wharf is in the middle of the barriered work and although vehicles can get in and out they have to wait for a gap in traffic.

The Stort Group managing director Richard Gilkes said it was an inconvenience and he was frustrated there appeared to be no notice of the works taking place.

Hertfordshire Highways told the Indie the work was to allow Cadent to carry out trial hole investigations to locate existing gas mains and that it would finish on Friday.

But although accepting the work had to be done Richard feared this week would not see the last of the disruption.

Stort Group boss Richard Gilkes believes the work is likely to continue beyond this week

“It is a huge piece of work,” he said. “There are red and blue lines all along the pavements.”

Motorists in Bishop’s Stortford were hit with more road works on Monday with Thames Water setting up multi-way signals at the junction of Parsonage Lane and Stansted Road for repair and maintenance works, finishing on May 5.

Two-way signals were also set up in High Street for works to the outside of a property. These are due to finish by midnight Friday (April 26).
