Meghan Markle acting return ripped apart as Netflix want 'pound of flesh' from contract

Meghan Markle's career as an actress ended when she gained so much attention as a Royal, an expert has claimed.

The Duchess of Sussex has had an unprecedented amount of publicity since she met and married Prince Harry and became a member of the Royal family, before quitting life in the UK to head to California to make a life with the Duke. The pair have since launched their own production company, Archewell Productions, and given details of programmes, both fictional and non, that they have plans for.

While Meghan will work behind the scenes as an executive producer for some of these projects, it seems unlikely she will ever return to starring in front of the camera as an actress according to Channel 5’s royal correspondent Simon Vigar. Speaking to The Sun's royal correspondent Matt Wilkinson he said: "I think the media career, or relighting the screen career as an actress, I think that's a long shot, because you can never see her as a character now, you are going to see Meghan, the Duchess, so that's difficult."

The expert continued: "How can you believe that she is anybody else other than the person that we know so well? And as I understand it, with Netflix they still have a deal there, who are going to want their pound of flesh, obviously."

Meghan has of course seen plenty of screen time since making a deal with Netflix, but solely as herself. The couple were seen starring in their biographical docu-series Harry & Meghan where they told the story of how they fell in love and ultimately departed the Royal family.

Archewell have now announced two new Netflix series, one of which will focus on polo - a sport Harry is known to adore. The second will seemingly tie in with Meghan's new lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard as it shines a light on lifestyle-centric topics such as gardening and cooking.

Simon gave his thoughts on Meghan's future career already as he noted that "she is obviously a mum of two young kids, that's clearly the priority," before he continued to offer that "once they are in school and off doing more stuff and need less constant care then I am sure the media career will grow."

However, he does not believe she will ever play another role like her successful stint as Rachel Zane on law drama Suits, concluding that "it's hard to see it in fiction though, being an actress."
