Peace Summit will take place in Switzerland

As early as January of this year, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, announced that a peace summit at the level of state leaders would be held in Switzerland. At that time, the head of the Ukrainian state also spoke about the beginning of preparations for the event.

According to Zelenskyy, such a meeting will determine that Russia's war against Ukraine should end only according to a fair scenario, taking into account the UN Charter and international law.

The president made this announcement after a meeting on the peace formula at the level of advisors to the heads of state took place in Switzerland. There have already been four such meetings.

In early April, the Federal Council of Switzerland (government) revealed more detailed details about the location and date of the summit. According to the authorities, the leaders' meeting will be held on June 15-16 at the Swiss resort of Bürgenstock, located near Lake Lucerne.

What is known about Bürgenstock

Bürgenstock is a mountain in Switzerland (1115 meters above sea level). There is a resort of the same name on this mountain.

Bürgenstock has become not only a well-known resort but also a place where important political decisions are made.

In particular, at the beginning of 2002, parties involved in the civil war in South Sudan signed a ceasefire agreement in Bürgenstock. Switzerland and the USA facilitated the signing of the agreement.

Also, in 2004, Switzerland organized a conference on the Cyprus settlement in Bürgenstock. During the event, Turkish and Greek Cypriots discussed the issue of Cyprus's membership in the EU. The country became part of the bloc in the same year.

Conducting the Global Peace Summit

This year, Ukraine, together with Switzerland, will host the first-ever summit for peace at the leadership level of heads of state. It is planned for the meeting to be attended not only by Kyiv's allies but also by as many countries as possible, including influential ones like China, India, and others.

During the meeting, participants are expected to discuss the implementation of the points of the Ukrainian peace formula, which aims for a fair resolution to the war with Russia.

Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that the peace summit had been postponed several times. According to information from Western media, the reason for this was the conflict between Israel and Hamas militants.
