39-year-old manager is flying to meet with Liverpool about taking over as manager tonight - journalist

Monday has turned into a busy day of news about who could be Liverpool’s next manager.

With under a month of Jurgen Klopp’s tenure at Anfield left, the Reds need to get a shift on in sorting out his replacement.

So far, we only really know who won’t be coming in to succeed Klopp. Xabi Alonso has obviously ruled himself out some time ago, while The Athletic today brought a surprising update about who has followed Alonso in this respect.

They report that although he had looked like a favourite over the past couple of weeks, Sporting’s Ruben Amorim is now ‘unlikely’ to be Liverpool’s next manager.

Following that bombshell of information though, a second update on Monday evening brought even more intrigue.

Ruben Amorim flying to England

Throughout the saga of Liverpool’s next potential manager, Portuguese journalist Pedro Sepulveda has been keeping Reds fans informed.

Most recently, Sepulveda had claimed that the 39-year-old would definitely be leaving his current club at the end of the campaign.

And following The Athletic’s surprise news, the reporter had another update.

Taking to X, Sepulveda claimed that Amorim was in fact still under consideration by Liverpool and is actually currently en route to England to meet with both the Reds and West Ham United.

“Ruben Amorim is in a private flight right now on his way to London! Meeting with LFC and West Ham is scheduled,” he says.

What’s going on with Ruben Amorim

Well, well, well. This has just gotten very interesting indeed. For many, Amorim had looked like being the outstanding remaining candidate for Liverpool. That has just been thrown up in the air.

In many ways, the fact that the Portuguese manager is travelling to England should not be a surprise. It was reported only last week that Liverpool will definitely interview Amorim about taking over.

It’s just intriguing given the timing of the update earlier today.

Over the next hours perhaps things will become a little clearer where Amorim is concerned. Maybe some other candidates will even start to show themselves. We have an idea over who one of them in particular might be.

There’s not much time left for Liverpool to make a decision either way. Enjoy your flight, Ruben…
