Report: When Newcastle United are now planning to appoint Dan Ashworth's replacement

Newcastle United are getting closer and closer to appointing Dan Ashworth’s successor.

The Magpies are currently looking for a new sporting director, with Dan Ashworth due to take his talents to Old Trafford.

He has been poached by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who wants Ashworth lead his Manchester United team behind the scenes. However, he will not be able to begin work until compensation is agreed and gardening leave comes to an end.

That might be sooner than anticipated, with Newcastle United stepping up their search for a replacement.

It was recently reported that three candidates have been interviewed on multiple occasions, with recruitment company Odgers Berndtson leading the search for Ashworth’s successor.

They have spoke to Paul Mitchell, Tiago Pinto and Rui Pedro Braz more than once, and they appear to be the leading contenders for the sporting director job at St James’ Park.

Why Newcastle United are suddenly close to appointing Dan Ashworth successor

And it might not be long before we find out who Newcastle United are going to appoint.

That is because iNews believe that the Magpies want to bring in Dan Ashworth’s replacement before the end of next month.

Newcastle United want a deal done before the end of the season, as they prepare for what will be a very intriguing transfer window on Tyneside.

June 30th is a key date in the mind of Newcastle officials, and every Premier League club, as that is when the next round of accounts must be submitted to the Premier League. It is an important date with regards to PSR, and the Magpies are aware that there could be opportunities to do early business.

One player who perhaps falls into that category is Morgan Gibbs-White, as it looks like Nottingham Forest will need to move on one of their saleable assets.

Manchester United will be eager for Newcastle to make a decision

Newcastle are eager to bring in a new chief behind the scenes as soon as possible, while Man United will also be keen for the Magpies to conclude their search.

That is because it will speed up their appointment of Dan Ashworth. Once Newcastle hire a new sporting director, talks over letting Ashworth leave will accelerate.

However, Toon officials must still look to get as much compensation as possible out of Man United. And they should also look to do a deal that ensures Ashworth does not start his role at Old Trafford until after the summer transfer window.

Just because we have nearly found a replacement does not mean we should let the Red Devils off the hook. We must not let them get their own way, as their public pursuit of Ashworth was rather undignified.

They can’t get their own way just because they’re Man United, and Newcastle must prove that by getting a compensation package that is right for them – and only them.
