Galaxy S24 FE might come sooner then you expect

Samsung introduced the Fan Edition (FE) version of its phones with the Galaxy S20 FE back in 2020, offering a slightly pared-down version of the flagship model at a more affordable price. This trend continued with the Galaxy S21 FE and Galaxy S23 FE, but Samsung skipped the Galaxy S22 FE in 2022. This may mean that the Galaxy S24 FE will also be left out.

Recent leaks, however, suggest that Samsung is indeed working on the next Fan Edition model, and its launch date might not be that far away.

When will the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE be released?

At the moment, we have no official information regarding the release date of the Galaxy S24 FE. However, according to a new report by The Elec, the Galaxy S24 FE will arrive this summer.

The launch could potentially take place during Galaxy Unpacked, which, according to SamMobile, is scheduled for 10 July. The S24 FE could therefore appear alongside Samsung’s highly anticipated foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, which are also expected to be announced at the event.

This would be much earlier than any FE model before, and also much earlier compared to the release of the non-FE family; the S24 series was released in January 2024.

As a reminder, here is when the previous models in the Fan Edition series were released:

How much will the Galaxy S24 FE cost?

There’s no official information on the price either, but we can use the previous models as a baseline of what to expect for the S24 FE.

So, here’s the pricing we’ve seen so far for the base models:

  • Galaxy S20 FE 4G: £599/€649 (Not released in the US)
  • Galaxy S20 FE 5G: £699/$699
  • Galaxy S21 FE: £699/$699
  • Galaxy S23 FE: £599/$579.99

Over the past two generations, the price of the Fan Edition model has remained the same. However, with the current Galaxy S23 FE, Samsung decided to lower its price, making even the 256GB model cost less than the 128GB version of the Galaxy S21 FE.

So, we expect the Galaxy S24 FE to be priced at £599/$579.99 for the base 128GB version, the same as its predecessor.

What specs and features will the Galaxy S24 FE have?

Design & display

We haven’t heard much about the Galaxy S24 FE yet. However, the latest reports on the yet-to-be-revealed phone suggest that it will share many features with the Galaxy S24 model.

For instance, it may feature a 6.1-inch AMOLED display, although X leaker Connor Bhai, the source of this information, notes there remains some uncertainty regarding this detail.

However, if it is to be different, it is likely to be a 6.4-inch panel, as seen in the previous two FE generations. If so, the display will offer a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz.

It’s also possible that the Galaxy S24 FE will be slightly larger, similar to its predecessors.

At 158 x 76.5 x 8.2mm and weighing 209g, the Galaxy S23 FE is bigger and heavier even than the Galaxy S23+. So, you may expect the Galaxy S24 FE to also be bigger and heavier than the Galaxy S24+.

Performance

Connor Bhai also indicates that the S24 FE will be released in two versions, each powered by a different chipset.

Some markets will receive the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 variant, while others will have the Exynos 2400, which also powers the Samsung Galaxy S24 and S24+ in the UK.

The promising aspect is that the phone might offer up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and either 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage or 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage.

Cameras

We haven’t seen any strong rumours about what we’ll see in terms of cameras in the Galaxy S24 FE, but we don’t think it will vary too much from the model it’s set to replace. The Galaxy S23 FE offers a 50Mp f/1.8 main camera that’s the same as on the regular Galaxy S23. This is accompanied by a 12Mp f/2.2 lens ultrawide lens, which again mirrors that of its non-FE equivalent. Add to that an 8Mp f/2.4 Telephoto lens and a 10Mp f/2.4 selfie camera and you have a decent range of optics available.

With the Galaxy S24 using the same cameras as the Galaxy S23, it looks likely then that the FE models will have the same lenses and sensors as each other.

Battery & charging

All of Samsung’s FE phones so far have offered 4,500mAh batteries with wireless charging support, so we don’t expect that to change this time around.

Software

Most likely, the phone will debut with Android 14 and One UI 6.1. Beyond that, we expect all the standard features that Samsung’s Android skin offers.

However, we do not know if Galaxy AI will be available on the Galaxy S24 FE and how long it will be supported by updates. The Galaxy S23 FE will receive four years of OS support and five years of security updates. That’s why it has received an update to One UI 6.1, and with it, access to AI-based features.

We expect that the Galaxy S24 FE will also receive the same long-term support and access to the Galaxy AI. It is also possible that it will share as much as seven years of support that the S24 series has received, but this is unconfirmed at this point.
