Chuck Love was recently named in a lawsuit by Ashley Scoggin in connection to a relationship between them. Love has now responded in a denial of the allegations from the two’s time together while at Nebraska.

Love has since denied any actual relationship between himself and Scoggin in Lincoln in reports. However, he did admit in a court document to once meeting her late at night in a parking lot.

Scoggin filed the lawsuit to end last week against Love. It also named head coach Amy Williams, former AD Trev Alberts, and the school’s Board of Regents. Within that suit, she is seeking a trial as well as damages for “the alleged violation of her civil rights”.

The allegations involve an inappropriate relationship between the former player and former assistant coach while with the Cornhuskers. Scoggin claims that Love, who recruited her to come to Nebraska from Salt Lake Community College, began the relationship with her, which started through messaging on Snapchat in order to meet for drinks. That then escalated to a meet up, which could be the one that he admitted to, before the circumstances “turned sexual”.

Love resigned from his role as an assistant and associate head coach with the program after a three-month suspension with pay back in May of 2022. As for Scoggin, she also got a suspension before leaving the team after that season and transferring to UNLV.

Scoggin named her head coach as well as leadership with the Cornhuskers due to their apparent knowledge of the situation. That included a situation where members of the team found out about the relationship during a roadtrip but, in a subsequent meeting about the matter, turned the blame on her as much as they did on the assistant.

There’s much to consider in a case like this on both sides. Still, for now, Love has provided his response to the original lawsuit that Scoggin sent his way.

More on Scoggin’s lawsuit against Love, Nebraska

Former Nebraska women’s basketball player Ashley Scoggin filed a lawsuit against the school amid allegations of an inappropriate relationship with former assistant coach Chuck Love.

“It arises from a professional coach initiating a sexual relationship with a student-athlete on his team, and from the response of the University of Nebraska and its athletic leadership to the confirmation of that relationship,” the lawsuit read.

“Although LOVE was married, LOVE pursued sexual relationships with students,” the lawsuit read.

“Before August 2021, WILLIAMS knew or should have known of LOVE’s pursuit of sexual relationships with students. The community of their coaching staff was tightknit, as was the community of coaching staff and student-athletes.”

Amid spending a lot of time with the coach, Love “groomed” Scoggin into a “secret sexual relationship.”

“LOVE also began messaging ASHLEY directly through SnapChat,” the lawsuit read. “This included contacting her late at night and asking her to meet him for drinks. Sometimes LOVE would tell her that he was out drinking with WILLIAMS’ husband and he would invite ASHLEY to join them. ASHLEY did not accept the first several invitations to meet LOVE for drinks.”

“When ASHLEY eventually did accept one of LOVE’s SnapChat invitations, they met in the parking lot of a Costco, after midnight. LOVE told ASHLEY he had just left the bars. They sat in the car and talked. LOVE chided ASHLEY about not bringing alcohol and asking her, if I leave for a different school, will you come with me?”

Knowing the coach wanted a sexual relationship, Scoggin allegedly was afraid of reporting Love.

“The relationship turned sexual,” the lawsuit read. “When LOVE wanted to have sex, he expected ASHLEY to be available and willing. Because LOVE was married and ASHLEY did not live alone, this involved sexual relations in different locations in University of Nebraska Department of Athletics facilities. It also included summoning ASHLEY to his hotel room when the team traveled to road games.”
