The Flagship examines complicated legacy of Mike Bianco, Ole Miss’ Mr. 1,000

Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco (5) makes a pitching change against Mississippi State at Swayze Field in Oxford, Miss., on Friday, Apr. 12, 2024.

Ole Miss grabbed one win in Athens, Ga., over the weekend, giving Rebel head coach Mike Bianco his 1,000th victory. The skipper has been in Oxford, Miss., since 2001 and has won 900 games as the head man for the SEC program. Despite Bianco’s club just being over the .500 mark heading into the month of May, the achievement is impressive nonetheless.

On this episode of “The Flagship”, presented by College Corner, Grayson Weir joins to discuss the complicated legacy of Bianco at Ole Miss.

“This is a team (and) program accolade.”

“You don’t do it without a fanbase that’s passionate to win and continues to show upm” Bianco said. “Everybody gets a piece of this.”

Ole Miss (21-18, 6-12 SEC) has 18 postseason appearances under Bianco, including eight Super Regionals and two trips to the College World Series. The Rebels won their first national championship as the last team named to the NCAA Tournament in the summer of 2022.

He’s also helped 130 Rebels get drafted by MLB teams. Thirty-one have come over the last six seasons.
