What is the Premier League Cup

The Premier League Cup is another cup tournament at under-18s level, considered to be less prestigious than the FA Youth Cup.

Unlike the FA Youth Cup which features lower academy ranked teams across the football pyramid, the Premier League Cup is made up of 32 teams, only in the top flight across the North and South divisions.

It also begins with a group stage similar to the Champions League, although teams only play each other once. It also lacks the history of the FA Youth Cup, with the competition created in 2013/14.

The tournament provides another chance for young players to experience knockout football, and another trophy opportunity, and is helpful for United’s under-18s, after a surprise loss in the FA Youth Cup at Swindon Town.

Premier League Cup final stadium and kick-off time

Manchester United have ‘home’ advantage against City, playing at Leigh Sports Village, a ground often used to host United’s under-21 games.

More than 7,000 tickets have already been sold for the 7.30pm kick-off on Tuesday night (22/4).

The team then won two knockout rounds to set up a final against rivals City.

Last two results v City at under-18s level

Manchester United have won one and lost one against City at under-18s level this season.

The victory was a 1-0 win with defender Louis Jackson scoring the winner.

City did win 4-1 in March to end the team’s unbeaten league record, although several under-18 regulars had stepped up to the 21s.

United coach Adam Lawrence hopes to have a full strength XI for this fixture, however, there could be a complication if Harry Amass, Ethan Wheatley and Louis Jackson are needed for the first team fixture against Sheffield United on Wednesday night.

United’s side could featureJack Fletcher or Tyler Fletcher who both left City for United last summer, while Harrison Parker could be in the City XI, after moving in the opposite direction a year ago.
