Cashpoint stolen in ramraid on Nationwide Building Society in Sawbridgeworth

A gang of thieves stole a cash machine in a ram-raid on the Nationwide Building Society in Sawbridgeworth overnight.

The branch in Knight Street was hit at about 5.30am Tuesday (April 23). Bell Street and Knight Street are shut as a result.

A nearby resident posted on a Facebook group: “This is the building I live in. Happened at 5.30 this morning as our building fire alarm went off as they fled.”

One of the gang is pictured using a telehandler to hoist the ATM onto the back of a pick-up stolen from the George IV along Knight Street

The gang appear to have stolen a pick-up truck that was parked at the George IV pub in the same street, removed its rear canopy and then used it as their getaway vehicle after using a telehandler to hoist the ATM (automated teller machine) onto the back of the pick-up.

The pick-up is a Truckman belonging to sports ground maintenance specialists Garson’s, whose clients include Bishop’s Stortford Rugby Football Club and Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club.
