‘It’s an option’: Mauricio Pochettino says £51m star is being considered to be Chelsea’s striker next season

Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed one name who is at least under consideration to start up front for Chelsea next season.

He told PA Sport that the club are considering one name who many might see as a bit of an outsider to become the new man to rely on in front of goal at Stamford Bridge.

Pochettino has seen his side on paper produce performances that should have them far higher up the table, however missed opportunities have seen them miss out on so many points.

Chelsea missing so many chances

The FA Cup semi-final at the weekend was a perfect example of this, with Nicolas Jackson unfortunately missing a hatful of chances in front of goal.

He is currently the only recognised central striker at the club, with a number of players being out on loan, including Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgian has found his goalscoring touch again, scoring 18 goals for Roma in all competitions this season.

He has starred particularly in Europe this season, where he has seven goals to his name in the Europa League so far.

It has been frequently claimed that the club are looking to finally secure a permanent deal for Lukaku this summer, reportedly looking for a fee of around £51m.

Mauricio Pochettino refuses to rule out Romelu Lukaku at Chelsea

However, Pochettino has refused to rule out the prospect of Lukaku ever playing for Chelsea again.

He said: “He’s a Chelsea player, so for sure we will pay attention. It’s an option. But still we did not take any decision.”

The Blues have been linked with a number of options to come in up front at the end of the season, with it expected that they will be in for a new name this summer.

Victor Osimhen has been frequently linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, although the club will be well aware just how expensive that deal is likely to be.
