Steve Smith thanks supporters after taking charge of National League North side Bishop’s Stortford for the last time

Steve Smith is looking forward to taking things a little easier after he ended his spell in charge of Bishop’s Stortford at the weekend.

The majority shareholder was in the dugout for the 252nd and final time as the Blues held Vanarama National League North play-off contenders Curzon Ashton to a 0-0 draw in front of a crowd of 473 at the RDA Stadium on Saturday.

Smith, who led Stortford to the Pitching In Isthmian League, Premier Division title a year ago, received a great ovation from the crowd before handing out prizes at the end-of-season awards presentation.

“It was good to end with a positive result,” said Smith, whose side finished bottom of the league after a tough campaign. “Our performances have been okay in the last few weeks so it was nice to get a result in my last game.

“It felt a bit weird [at the final whistle], but all things come to an end some time and it’s been a good journey.

“I’m still going to be involved and I’ll probably go to all the home games, but I might not go to all the away games!

“I really appreciate the support I’ve had from everyone. We’ve got a really good, solid fanbase.”
